Undergraduate Scholarships
Today's Notre Dame student measures among the brightest and most accomplished in the land, with SAT scores rising more than 300 points above the national average. Even before they come to Notre Dame, these students have demonstrated an exceptional breadth of talent—from community service, to athletics, to research, to the performing arts.
Yet the cost of educating these academic all–stars has risen along with their achievements, particularly in the past two decades, as technology and computing have dramatically altered the landscape of the classroom, the lab, the library, and even the dorm room. Moreover, the appointment of internationally renowned faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate students has brought about a commensurate rise in costs.
While Notre Dame has taken a number of steps to minimize tuition increases, the single most effective way to ensure that deserving students are able to enroll at the University regardless of financial capacity is through the development of scholarship funds, both endowed and expendable.
Thus, Spirit of Notre Dame seeks $250 million in scholarship funding, making this the campaign's foremost priority.
Campaign Priorities for Undergraduate Scholarships
Endowed Scholarships
Notre Dame's foremost campaign priority, endowed scholarships will ensure that the most capable students are able to select the University based on their talent and desire, not their financial capacity. Robust support for endowed scholarships will also help to ensure that Notre Dame remains intellectually on par with peer institutions by offering competitive financial aid packages.
How can I help? Endowed scholarships may be created at the following giving levels: Named ($100,000), Prize ($250,000), Distinguished ($500,000), Presidential ($1 million), and Premier ($5 million).
Expendable Scholarship Support
As an endowed scholarship grows, it provides only partial support for students. Therefore, expendable scholarship funds are vital to maintaining a healthy operating budget and ensuring competitive financial aid packages for students with need. Gifts to the Notre Dame Annual Fund and the Sorin Society provide immediate relief for scholarships, among other top University priorities.
How can I help? Benefactors can support scholarships by making an unrestricted gift to the Notre Dame Annual Fund or the Sorin Society. Gifts of any amount are deeply appreciated - make yours now.
