Performing Arts
The performing arts are flourishing at Notre Dame as never before, much due to the opening in 2004 of the spectacular multi-venue Marie P. DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts (DPAC). Since then, the University and surrounding communities have been regaled by a dazzling array of world-class talent.
The Spirit of Notre Dame campaign seeks a total of $5 million to maintain the quality and variety of artistic performances, as well as to keep ticket prices affordable for students.
Campaign Priorities for the Performing Arts
Endowment for the Promotion of Artist Residencies
While the artists that perform in DPAC represent a remarkable learning opportunity for all Notre Dame students, they present special opportunities for students of the arts. This endowment would allow the University to expand its artist-in-residence series, by inviting select master artists to spend a week or more on campus prior to their performance, working directly with students.
Endowment for the Commissioning of New Art Works
With the advent of DPAC, Notre Dame established itself as vibrant center for the arts. With the support of this endowment, the University will expand its scope and reputation, by commissioning new works of dance, theatre, and music annually. These works, which will have their world premiere on campus, will go on to tour nationally and internationally, bearing as they do the Notre Dame name.
Endowment for Lifelong Learning through the Arts
Tomorrow’s arts patrons are the schoolchildren of today, most of whom do not receive the same arts education that was available just a generation ago. This endowment will permit Notre Dame to launch a curriculum-based, K-12 matinee program for Michiana-area children, bringing the magic and splendor of the theatre to students who may not otherwise be exposed to the arts.
Irish Heritage Fund for the Performing Arts
The Irish Heritage Fund will permit DPAC to create a unique series of events that reflect the breadth of Irish arts and culture—be it through traditional or contemporary dance, music, theatre, or cinema. Funding will underwrite the commissioning of new works or the presentation of today’s most outstanding Irish playwrights, composers, choreographers, and film directors. The annual series will include both established and developing artists.
How can I help? Each of these endowments may be supported, either wholly or in part, through the establishment of an Endowment for Excellence at one of the following levels: Named ($100,000), Prize ($250,000), Distinguished ($500,000), Presidential ($1 million), and Premier ($5 million).
