College of Arts and Letters
The oldest and largest of the University's four colleges, Arts and Letters remains the cornerstone of a Notre Dame education. All undergraduates, regardless of major, begin their education here. Among its graduate programs are several—including Irish and Latin American studies—that are at the top of their field.
In everything it does, the College embodies Notre Dame's twin ambitions: to be at once a premier undergraduate-centered liberal arts college and an ambitious research university. Through its highly rated theology and philosophy departments and academic programs inspired by the values of the faith, Arts and Letters contributes broadly to Notre Dame's Catholic heritage.
Accordingly, the Spirit of Notre Dame campaign is pursuing $155 million in support for the College of Arts and Letters. Funding is sought for campaign priorities that will:
- Elevate those academic programs with the greatest potential to be leaders in their field and bolster programs of emerging significance;
- Secure the talents of world–class professors through endowed chairs;
- Diversify the research and educational opportunities available to undergraduates;
- And strengthen the Catholic character of the College and the University.
