Campaign Progress

It’s official. A little more than two years after its public launch in the spring of 2007, the Spirit of Notre Dame campaign has surpassed its overall $1.5 billion target, with two years remaining in the campaign’s life cycle.

This outstanding achievement has been realized through the uncommon generosity of the Notre Dame family. The University is grateful to all those alumni, parents, and friends who have supported the Spirit of Notre Dame thus far, and it is counting on your continued support to achieve the next critical goal: fulfilling those campaign priorities that are yet under-funded.

Financial aid remains the most pressing of these needs, though the campaign will also focus its attention on other essential priorities over the coming two years, including endowed chairs, funds for the Hesburgh Libraries, and support for academic programs and colleges.

Dear Members of the Notre Dame Family,

The overriding theme of the Spirit of Notre Dame campaign is, in a sense, its commitment to the advancement of Notre Dame as a unique institution, distinguished from other universities by its character and vision, and by a mission that takes a less traveled path, one that sets it apart from its peers even as it seeks to perform academically on a level with the greatest institutions of higher education in the world.

Notre Dame is not simply a university; it is a way of life. We invite your support of this exceptional institution which is in a continual process of fulfilling its great promise. Our aim with this campaign is to preserve the best, most hallowed traditions of the Catholic universities of centuries past, even as we push the frontiers of what is known in order to teach the students who have been entrusted to us how to live a life that is thoughtful, good, compassionate, and wise.

Yours in Notre Dame,

John W. Jordan II (’69)
