Endowed Library Collections
The traditional notion of a library as a repository for dusty stacks of books no longer accurately describes the role of the Hesburgh Libraries. Today, academic libraries like Notre Dame’s are vibrant, fast-paced nerve centers, where students and faculty are as likely to seek out an electronic journal or database as they are a printed volume.
One thing hasn’t changed, however: a university’s distinction and reputation invariably correspond with the depth and breadth of its library collections and information services.
Endowed collections help Notre Dame to keep its library resources on pace with the constantly evolving teaching and research needs of its constituencies. Benefactors may establish a library endowment at the following levels:
- Premier: $5,000,000
- Presidential: $1,000,000
- Distinguished: $500,000
- Prize: $250,000
- Named: $100,000
Library collections will be named at the behest of the donor: for example, the Lucille and Paul O’Brien Collection in Art History.
With the consent of the donor, appropriate recognition will be offered, including the display of a plaque etched with the benefactor’s name in the Hesburgh Library, annual reports, and invitations to special recognition events.
