Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
A charitable remainder annuity trust is an irrevocable trust—a separate tax entity—which returns income, usually quarterly, to a donor or other specified beneficiary for life or for a period not to exceed 20 years. The percentage of the trust payout is fixed at not less than five percent of the fair market value of the assets at the creation of the trust.
At Notre Dame, a charitable remainder annuity trust can be established with a contribution of $100,000 or more. Once established, no additional gifts may be made to a charitable remainder annuity trust.
For those who prefer fixed payments, a charitable remainder annuity trust may be an attractive option.
